Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman) was among the earliest converts to Islam in Mecca, a devoted companion of the Prophet Muhammad, and one of the foremost authorities in Qur’anic recitation and understanding. Originally a shepherd for ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt, he embraced Islam through Abu Bakr and closely accompanied the Prophet in Mecca and Medina. He later settled in Kufa under the caliphate of ‘Umar and ‘Uthman, serving as a teacher, jurist, and reciter.
