Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (Abu ‘Abd al-Rahman) was among the earliest converts to Islam in Mecca, a devoted companion of the Prophet Muhammad, and one of the foremost authorities in Qur’anic recitation and understanding. Originally a shepherd for ‘Uqbah ibn Abi Mu‘ayt, he embraced Islam through Abu Bakr and closely accompanied the Prophet in Mecca and Medina.
